George Moves to London

written and illustrated by Giana Gyr

My husband and I did a crazy thing in August of 2020 and moved our lives across the world from San Francisco to London. One of the most difficult and anxiety-inducing aspects of the whole move was bringing our giant floof, George, our rescue Great Pyrenees with us. We were so worried about him on that long flight all by himself and I wished that I was able to explain to him where we were going and that we would be there to meet him on the other side. While we waited for him to arrive in London, stuck in a mandatory 14-day quarantine, I started dreaming of what George might have thought of his journey and the first few pages of George Moves to London came to life.

I was surprised to find that there very few children’s books about moving, let alone moving internationally, and I felt that George’s story would relate to any young child leaving their familiar home for somewhere unknown. It takes bravery and trust, but hopefully it is all worth it in the end.
