When considering Japanese iconography, I was struck by the resemblance between the two horizontal lintels of a traditional torii gate and the rear wing of a Formula 1 car. Torii gates traditionally symbolize transitional spaces, marking the boundary between the everyday and the sacred. This theme of transition and repetition feels particularly fitting for this race. Not only was it Max Verstappen's fourth consecutive victory at Suzuka, but maintaining the lead over the two McLarens demanded consistent execution across all 53 laps. For the background, I chose a dry, golden yellow, a direct reference to the parched grass surrounding the circuit that caused significant disruption during the initial practice sessions as it caught fire multiple times.
